 There are many reasons why we might experience inner conflict:

Sometimes we get caught up between our need for approval or feeling loyal towards someone and something and doing something that feels wrong to us or not taking action for the very same reason. In situations like this there is a conflict between our values and our beliefs.

Just like there sometimes can be conflict between what we desire and our goals. Sometimes our society, culture and family frown on what feels like our true desires/purpose or identity. We might feel pressured into a lifestyle that doesn’t feel true to us.

We might feel tormented by our past and past decisions made or actions taken.

We might want to heal, but be afraid to really feel the pain of our traumas and grief.

We might experience a range of seemingly opposing emotions and sometimes we might not see ourselves clearly and fully understand that our sense of identity is flawed or superimposed by the image we want to be and not necessarily who we are at our core. This self-perception conflict can also be when we view ourselves in a certain way but act in another way.

Many of us externalize or project our internal conflicts onto our external world or relationships as well.

We might feel torn between two or more viable, but very different choices. We might be afraid that we will make the wrong choice. Sometimes all choices available might feel wrong to us.
