Trauma bonds are often a coping mechanism, a way for us to try and meet our deepest emotional needs in an unconscious attempt to heal old wounds. It is not limited to our romantic relationships although it habitually manifests there. While trauma bonds can be very subtle, they tend to have a pattern of emotional highs and lows and the deep emotional connection that we feel is frequently rooted in fear, guilt or obligation rather than mutual affection and respect.
